I remember reading in another interview (checked and it was New York Observer) that Dan's 'team' were somewhat pro-active in guiding his career, their columnist echoed the thoughts of Lynn Barber.
More Bad Psychology
I forgot to add that I suspect that it was more bad publicity on his management's part to get him to attend the Ermenigildo Zega Essenze launch after his excellent Telegraph article on the gift of enough. Dan don't trust your American management too much!!
Bad Psychology
I feel sure Dan's fans are getting rather irritated with these endless rumours about him leaving Downton.
We would just like to know one way or the other.
I am reminded of comments made by the British journalist, Lynn Barber, in her recent Sunday Times.. Magazine article - "the unstoppable rise of the Downton Dish" She wrote amusingly about the difficulties she encountered when trying to arrange a venue for their meeting. Not with Dan, who was easy and charming, but with his American management who had to approve the relative merits of various London coffee bars versus a gastro-pub!
Now this American management presumably think it good publicity to keep up the suspense. Their psychology is wrong, it is damaging Dan's image.
Agree!
Well said. I've been thinking the same thing. I have the distinct feeling that Dan Stevens' American PR management are not doing him service at all and it's tarnishing his image. Before he hit our shores he seemed to have been doing fine. I'm sure he's finding himself quite frustrated at how things work here vs. over in the U.K. I fear that this will be a very rude awakening for Mr. Stevens.
The lure of a 'bigger badder' career may attract the ambitious artist/actor/entertainer to America initially, first but you have to think, is it worth selling your soul to move your career ahead?
He's probably starting to have an inkling now as to why so many quality actors and entertainers now and in years past have fled the shores of the States to friendlier, less cut-throat, more humble climes, where the focus is still on one's passion for the art, not the consumerism of the actor.
Dan, please continue to be true to yourself and don't get caught up in all the hoopla. You're a fantastically gifted actor, with a brilliantly intelligent mind and myriad additional talents. Spread them as you wish and please for the love of Downton, don't take us Americans too seriously.

what has it got to do with
what has it got to do with any one where Dan goes or doesn't go the opening of a car door'! Let's hope he does not endlessly grace the pages of social diaries as 'seen at' blah blah where he becomes more recognized as a social being rather than a fine actor.paper writing service

I Like Seeing Dan
All of the previous comments about where he goes and what he does is petty! Bottom line is l like seeing Dan whether he is being interviewed or he goes to launch a collection of whatever; I don't care because I like seeing Dan and I like listening to him talk and I like seeing him act!
Here here!
Any and all sightings of the delectable Mr. Stevens is good enough for me, don't need to make a huge debate out of it. Heck, he could be snapped picking his nose for all I care. (Can just imagine the "shocked" headlines now: "Downton Heir Caught in 'Commoner' Pose"! And why not? He has a nose, doesn't he? lol.)
On a serious note, I personally saw no 'conflict' between his "gift of enough" observation, and his appearance at a purely PR-induced product placement event. As he said "a true understanding of 'enough' would be the most satisfying gift".
Meaning, presumably, that he-- like us, and every other human being-- is guilty of not knowing where to draw the line. We're humans, after all. I read it to imply that he too feels caught in the timeless struggle, too, to define for himself, just what 'enough' is. To constantly look inward and keep assessing. I took it as an acknowledgment of our united plight, not a judgment or finger pointing. We would do well to be as gracious.

I visited this site after a friend asked me to read Dan's column regarding Thanksgiving in the US as she found it rather cynical when he was presumably paid to comment on the parade by NBC ; I then came across these two comments. I can appreciate both, as for Dan to comment on the commercial aspect of holidays, and ask us to appreciate the greeting of 'wishing us enough' to see him pictured at the launch of a very exclusive product which few can afford seems a rather strange choice of event. But I agree with the comment that he is free to say and do what he pleases and we should respect that, just as we respect the other point of view.

calm down dear!
Whoa! someones got their knickers in a knot! - so what has it got to do with any one where Dan goes or doesn't go? Sometimes these corporate events keeps celebrities profile inthe public eye - and what's wqrong with that?!
Jane in soggy Cornwall!
What is all this, why does
What is all this, why does Dan attend these 'launches', Zegna perfume!! Is it part of some contractual obligation, a bid to promote a higher profile, free drinks or sheer boredom? As the wits would have it 'some people go the opening of a car door'! Let's hope he does not endlessly grace the pages of social diaries as 'seen at' blah blah where he becomes more recognized as a social being rather than a fine actor.
GEE WHIZ....
RELAX, RELAX, MAYBE DAN WAS DOING SOME CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! ALL I CAN SAY IS, WHEREVER OR WHENEVER HE APPEARS, HE LOOKS MARVELOUS.
