The Fifth Estate: Boston Herald interview

A new interview with Dan, promoting The Fifth Estate, has been shared by the Boston Herald.

Not surprisingly, to play Katz, Stevens met the journalist. “Getting to meet Ian and getting an insight into just how exciting and thrilling, worrying and scary it was to be a journalist involved in this particular story” was eye-opening. “What we don’t see in the film is this sort of dynamic of it’s just a British newspaper office, you’re there day-to-day, running a newspaper and suddenly you are embroiled in this really epic moment in journalistic history. “A moment like this comes along, how is that for a pretty young guy at the time? It’s kind of everything you’ve lived for; you grow up watching movies like ‘The Year of Living Dangerously’ with Mel Gibson and suddenly it’s you! “You’re there and they’re getting burner phones like in ‘The Wire’ because they’re worried about the CIA tapping them. It’s a pretty huge moment. So yeah, it was interesting to get that perspective on it.” As for being killed off in “Downton Abbey,” Stevens has no regrets. “It was obviously a very difficult decision but it was mine to make and it’s been a very exciting year since.”
