OH, COME NOW DAN....

NO MORE OF THE WORLD-IS-LOST-ANGST FROM ONE SO YOUNG AND MULTI-GIFTED AS YOURSELF. GUTTER?? WHAT A WRETCHED WAY TO VIEW LIFE. I SUSPECT TIME SPENT IN THE SO CALLED "COMEDY" CLUBS, THOSE EMPORIUMS OF 4 LETTER WORD SCATTER GUNS AIMED AT ANY AND ALL, HAVE DULLED YOUR USUAL ACUTE PERCEPTION.. BELIEVE ME ,AS ONE VERY NEARLY 3 TIMES YOUR AGE, I AM WELL AWARE THAT LIFE CAN BE AND TOO OFTEN IS, BRUTAL. WE HAVE THE EVENING NEWS, AND DAILY CARES, LEST WE FORGET..... BUT IT IS ALSO GRANDLY BEAUTIFUL, JUST LOOK IN THE FACES OF YOUR CHILDREN AND LOVED ONES. AND ALSO, THOSE YOU PASS DAILY ON THE SIDEWALKS OF A CITY OR THE DIRT ROADS, HERE AND ANYWHERE ELSE. THE ONLY "STAGE" THEY APPEAR ON, BUT HEROES, AND SURVIVORS, OF TRAGEDY AND COMEDY, NEVERTHELESS. AND THEY CAN, WITH THEIR SIMPLE STORIES, PUT A SMILE ON YOUR LIPS AND A TWINKLE IN YOUR EYE IN APPRECIATION OF ALL THE GOOD THAT IS WITHIN OUR PECULIAR SPECIES. NEW YORK IS A GREAT CITY, BUT PLEASE, DO NOT BECOME INFECTED WITH ITS CYNICISM, NOR EVER THINK OF IT AS THE "ALL" OF THE USA.

Re Exhibition Link

Thank you so much for this link - most interesting to see, and I am so looking forward to the release of the film.

New art Exhibition linked to Summer in February

Fabulous video clip.

Thank you very much for taking the time to put it up. Most enjoyable and informative.

Now looking forward more than ever to the movie in June.

Exhibition linked to " Summer in February"

Thank you so much for putting up the link to Video Clip about the Exhibition of the Newlyn Artists at Lamorna.

It was very interesting seeing the photos of Munnings, Gilbert Evans and Florence Carter-Woods as well as the beautiful paintings featuring Florence. Having Gilbert Evans son David who is mentioned in the novel contribute as well was a great personal touch.

I love Jonathan Smith's novel and am looking forward to the release of the movie which I am sure will do very well in the UK.

My monthly challenge!

I am not ashamed to admit it! It is not unusual for me to have to resort to the dictionary when reading Dan's monthly column. Nowadays it is rare to find well-written, challenging and thought-provoking articles in the regular press. So, once again, thank you Dan for another 'good read'.

Monthly Challenge

Did you find out what is meant by a 'dystopian critique'? I couldn't find the word in my dictionary.

Monthly Challenge

'dystopian citique'..... have since figured out that it has to be the opposite of 'utopia'.....

Monthly challenge

So far as I can discover Utopia and it's offshoot Dystopia are genres of literature that explore social and political structures.

Dystopia exaggerating worst case scenarios, critising a current trend of society or political system .

Utopia A place, state or condition that is ideally perfect in respect of politics, law, custom and condition.

Society is an illusion of a perfect utopian world.
