A Walk Among The Tombstones: Express interview

A Walk Among The Tombstones: Express interview

Thanks to Lorna for this scan from today's Daily Express. The paper carries a brief interview with Dan, who mentions leaving Downton and finishing A Walk Among The Tombstones.

Photos of Dan attending an event in New York last night have been shared on this site. Don't forget, The Fifth Estate currently has a theatrical release in the US and UK. Go see it.

Let him shine....

While I will always think the world of his performance as the loving, long-suffering "Matthew" on DA, there are so many other things Dan has done well and will do well. I've just watched 'Summer in February' and loved just about everything about it (save that the end of the story was so sad). His performance in 'Shallow' gave me the willies...

So what I am trying to say is - why not let him shine, and keep on shining, and DON'T compare. Dan is a thinking man's performer and a intellectual's muse. It's time to move on, with him, from the past we have loved.

DAN TOOK DA WITH HIM...

WHEN HE LEFT, AT LEAST FOR ME. THE NEW SEASON DOESN'T START HERE IN THE STATES TILL JANUARY, AND I WILL SURELY WATCH AT THE BEGINNING, BUT NOT AS ATTENTIVELY AS BEFORE. IN THE MEANWHILE, DAN WILL SUCCEED IN HIS FUTURE VENTURES I AM CERTAIN, AND I WILL BE "FRONT ROW CENTER" CHEERING HIM ON! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...NOW AND THE FUTURE, DAN!

I miss Dan terribly on DA.

I miss Dan terribly on DA. It's not the same without him. I do hope to see him in more roles though. I haven't seen/heard much of him since he left DA. Miss him. He's such a great actor. Thanks Dan. We love you, LOTS!

Re" "I miss Dan..."

Although I am still a fan of DA, I can fully understand and appreciate why Dan felt that 3 years in this one role was enough. Nevertheless, it was sad to see him leave the show, and I have to admit I do not feel that as yet, the current series is a patch on the original three.
However, you may not have heard or seen him much since, but you must know that from last September/October through to February this year he was on the Broadway stage in "The Heiress'. Since then he has filmed a small role in "The Fifth Estate" which is now released, a larger role in "A Walk Among The Tombstones", a main role in "The Guest", both of which are yet to be released. He also spent quite a while back in the UK promoting the release of his film "Summer In February" in June this year. In addition to these, there are 5 new audiobooks by Dan, and he is currently the voice of TIM in the new tv series "The Tomorrow People". Dan writes regularly for the Telegraph Seven magazine and has attended numerous and varied 'events' both in the USA and in the UK.
I hope that you are able to see some of the films and maybe listen to at least some of his audiobooks.
Best wishes!

Missing Dan on DA

Oh dear ! I so agree that there is a huge hole in the show now that Dan has left . Not sure if I will bother watching anymore , it certainly has lost it's interest for me . Such a shame as it really was a must watch for Sunday evenings and there are a lot of viewers who have already given up on the programme.

Missing Dan on DA

In spite of protestations to the contrary by Julian Fellowes, Gareth Neames and fellow cast members, Series 4 of Downton Abbey is not a patch on the previous three seasons. Dan Stevens' absence is patently obvious not only in the grief stricken Lady Mary and the grieving mother, Isobel Crawley but in the story line.

Matthew Crawley is greatly missed. You expect to see him at breakfast with the family as well as at those white tie evening meals. Tom Branson is at a loss without him.

Dan Stevens took the heart of Downton Abbey with him when he left and as yet it has not had a successful transplant.

Missing Dan on DA

Well said !
Really sad that series 4 is so disappointing no matter what has been written by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neames about Matthew's death opening up new possibilities for story lines ......It isn't working guys !

Matthew and Mary are the core of Downton Abbey !

He IS greatly missed but I have to say that so far the grief for Matthew has been respectful and it isn't as though he has never been mentioned again , even though the Lord was enjoying being top of the pile again until he discovered Matthew's intentions for Mary in the event of his death . I find myself watching just to see if the memory of him is still there and for no other reason I am sad to say .

Dan has moved on and is enjoying his new ventures and every good wish goes with him but you are greatly missed at Downton Abbey .

Re: "Missing Dan..."

I can understand the above comment about "watching to see if the memory of him...." - I seem to be thinking the same thing!
I truly believe that the show should have ended after Series 3, as the story had really been told by then. It had a well-rounded, complete feel about it, apart from the final scene of course! The show would have been held with great affection and high regard for many years, whereas now, I feel that it may be tarnishing that original good name and reputation. I am not even sure that had Dan stayed it would have been very different to how it is evolving now. Yes of course certain story lines would obviously not have to have been introduced, but those of Series 4 that would not have involved Mary & Matthew, really do not have the same 'draw' as the those of the original three series. There have been some beautiful moments but I don't really get excited about the brief 'celebrity' appearances which really are not at all necessary and rather suggest 'desperate measures'.

I quite agree that Downton

I quite agree that Downton Abbey could have ended on a high note at the end of Season 3. Wonder if the show's creators almost wish it had done as well, since 'Matthew' was pivotal to so much -- ! This year the show is nowhere near as compelling, and not just because it lacks someone.

I quite agree

Well apparently 12 million viewers think otherwise. Just because an actor chooses to leave a programme and yes it was disappointing even though one knew he was going, that is no reason to stop a show when the other cast members are willing to continue. Think, if everytime some actor quits should that programme stop and put the rest of the cast let alone the crew which probably numbers around 90 in the case of Downton, out of work. I think not.

Actually I have enjoyed S4 as much as the earlier series and have now got to the stage where Matthew seems a very distant memory. I look forward to watching Isobel and Mary rebuild their lives.

Ongoing DA discussion...maybe not here?

Perhaps this site is not the place to discuss Series 4 and future episodes of Downton Abbey, although there are surely many who hold strong opinions and varying points of view. There are many other sites/blogs etc dedicated to that subject!
Surely this website is intended to provide a central point of information, news, photos etc about Dan. I am very grateful for and appreciative of this facility. Please let's keep it gentle and interesting.

Hear, hear! It's Dan Stevens

Hear, hear! It's Dan Stevens I come here to appreciate and read about.

Thanks for these two updates

It is always interesting to see what Dan is working on and what else he is getting involved with. Thank you

Dan Stevens
